St. Bridget’s Senior Residence
Affordable Housing for Seniors
The new housing complex is located at 372 Montgomery St. in the downtown Jersey City Van Vorst Historit District. The project features 46 affordable housing units for senior citizens ages 55 and above. Five units are set aside for those with disabilities and nine units are set aside for senior ages 62 and older in poor health condition. One hundred percent of the project units are affordable, with 41 units available to household with incomes at or below 60% of the AMI, and five special needs units at or below 30% the AMI. All of the residents have access to social services.
About the Property
The $10.6 million renovation was developed by the Alpert Group LLC, and RCG Development Group LLC, with construction by Lindemon Winckelmann, Dupree Martin & Associates, and F.A.S.T. Construction, Inc., in partnership with the City of Jersey City, Enterprise Community Investment, Inc., TD Bank, and the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency. The site features two three-story buildings and one five-story building at the St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church. The two three-story buildings served as a rectory where a priest lived and a convent. The five-story building originally held a school. The project was completely rehabilitated and adaptively reused as apartments in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the the Treatment of Historic properties and the New Jersey State Historic Preservation Office.
