West Orange Senior Housing, An Age-Restricted (62+), Income-Restricted Community

West Orange Senior Housing serves as an exemplary model of a successful public-private partnership.

Recognizing the pressing need for affordable housing in the community, The Township of West Orange identified an opportunity to repurpose the site of an aging library (originally built in the 1950’s) into 65 affordable senior apartments. Leveraging a grant program, the library was relocated to a new facility and through demolition, adaptive reuse, and new construction, a modern and energy efficient community in a prime location will serve seniors for decades to come. The community will serve a mix of income ranges between 30% – 60% Area Median Income (AMI) and is restricted as affordable housing in perpetuity.

The community is currently under construction and slated to be complete in September 2024.

A random selection will be held for all preliminary applications submitted on or before 5:00 PM, September 4, 2024, after which the waiting list may be closed. There will be a preference for applicants who live in Housing Region 2 (Essex, Morris, Union and Warren Counties).

Once the random selection process is completed, you will be notified of your priority number. When an apartment (of the size and type for which you are eligible for) becomes available, you will be notified in priority order.  At that time, you will be required to meet with an intake coordinator and document your household composition, income and assets.  Minimum and maximum income, credit and criminal standards, previous rental history, and other requirements will also apply.

We expect leasing to begin late September of 2024.
